SABIC and Suzuki – a Swift Success
Strong customer relationship
SABIC Europe and Suzuki (Japan) have built up a strong business relationship over the last 10 years, resulting in supply positions for the “old” Swift, Wagon R+ and Ignis. Two years ago talks started between the two companies regarding our involvement in supplying raw materials to Suzuki for the manufacture of the new Suzuki Swift.
Working in close collaboration with the key decision makers and purchasing/technical managers it was agreed that SABIC Europe would be the number one supplier of PP for the Swift.
The eye-catching new Suzuki Swift came on the market in Europe in April 2005 and is manufactured by Magyar Suzuki Corp. based in Hungary.
Approximately 90% of all plastic PP materials in the Suzuki Swift are supplied by SABIC Europe.
A unique grade
SABIC® PP Compound 7690 is an unique material in the SABIC portfolio, developed for Suzuki and used in the production of the new Suzuki Swift bumpers by Magyar Suzuki Corp. Cost-saving is achieved due to the shorter cycle time, which is realized during injection molding due to the high flow of the material. In addition this grade possesses high impact resistance at low temperatures and a high stiffness performance. It can be used in painted and unpainted applications with UV stabilization added on demand.
High scratch resistance
SABIC® PP Compound 6604/5 is also used in the new Suzuki Swift – for the instrument panel (IP), console and glove compartment. Combining high scratch resistance, stiffness, impact and flow, this grade has a very broad processing window and great mechanical properties for application in the interior of the Swift. Importantly it is also splinter-free for use in the airbags.
Further customer collaboration
In addition to supplying the above grades directly to Magyar Suzuki Corp., SABIC Europe also supplies SABIC® PP Compound 7715 to Peguform Bohemia based in the Czech Republic, a key customer for many years now. The grade is used to produce the door panels for the new Suzuki Swift and possesses a stiffness balance designed especially for Suzuki. It has been designed to combine a high performance profile with good processability.

SABIC Europe is proud to be a market leader in the supply of PP to the European automotive industry. In addition to our European expertise we also have extensive knowledge of the Japanese market and a high level of technical support, which is of extreme importance to customers such as Suzuki. Due to our product consistency, SABIC PP Compound can be used in other Suzuki models. For example, we also supply PP for the IP and bumper of the Suzuki Ignis, which is also built in Hungary by Magyar Suzuki Corp.
